Talk Title: Complete genomes and complex structural variation
Abstract: I will present our most recent work using long-read sequencing technologies to sequence hundreds of human and non-human ape genomes more completely at the population genetic, familial, and evolutionary level. The work has led to the discovery of more complex forms of structural variation mapping to segmental duplications, acrocentric regions, and centromeres with the potential for new genetic disease associations and insights into adaptive mutations important for human evolution.
